History

Full Blue is an award given to students by universities and some schools who have excelled in their chosen sport. The award dates back to 1827 when Cambridge and Oxford first played cricket against each other, later in 1829 when the two universities first rowed against each other, and more formally in 1836 when they rowed against each other for the second time. The colours were established during the second race in 1836, light blue for Cambridge and dark blue for Oxford. Since then, universities and some schools from the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand award their students with sporting blues; the Full Blue and the Half Blue.
